Celebrated American violin virtuoso Elizabeth Pitcairn has earned a stunning reputation as one of America’s most beloved soloists. Ms. Pitcairn made her New York debut at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall in 2000 with the New York String Orchestra and appeared as soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra at the Academy of Music. She has performed at Carnegie Hall and Walt Disney Concert Hall and in many countries around the world including China, Hong Kong, Hungary, Romania, Switzerland, Italy, France, Germany, Sweden, Finland, Bulgaria, Russia, Slovenia and the Netherlands. She has toured Austria, the Czech Republic and Poland with TOCCATA, and will tour with TOCCATA again in 2019. The signature artist performs in partnership with one of the world’s most legendary instruments, the “Red Mendelssohn” Stradivarius of 1720, said to have inspired the Academy award-winning film “The Red Violin.” Ms. Pitcairn appears on the 10th anniversary edition of “The Red Violin”– Meridian Collection in a special feature documentary interview.

Ms. Pitcairn is passionate about youth and education. She is the President and Artistic Director of the Luzerne Music Center (New York), a summer camp and chamber music festival for gifted young musicians. A former member of the distinguished faculty at the Colburn School and the University of Southern California, she taught alongside master teacher, Robert Lipsett. On her tours, she makes time for school visits and gives master classes. Born in bucolic Bucks County, Pennsylvania in 1973, into a closely-knit musical family (her mother is a Juilliard-trained cellist), Ms. Pitcairn asked for a violin at age three and a half and made her debut performing with orchestra at age 14. Her path led her to Los Angeles to study with preeminent violin professor Robert Lipsett at USC’s Thornton School of Music. At the Marlboro Music Festival she performed chamber music with members of the Juilliard and Guarneri String Quartets. Former teachers include Julian Meyer, Sylvia Ahramjian, Jascha Brodsky and Shmuel Ashkenasi.

Her discography includes recordings of Tchaikovsky and Mozart A Major Concerti with the Slovenia Radio Television Orchestra, the Bruch Scottish Fantasy and the Bizet/Sarasate Carmen Fantasy with the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra, and the “Hymns to the Night” Concerto with the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra for Phono Suecia. The 2010 release of “Hymns to the Night”, commissioned from Sweden’s leading composer Tommie Haglund with the Helsingborg Symphony under the baton of Finnish conductor Hannu Koivula, earned Ms. Pitcairn a Swedish Grammi nomination for Best Classical Recording. She has recorded concertos by Bruch, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Brahms and Lalo with Classic FM Radio Orchestra of Bulgaria. Ms. Pitcairn outfits her Stradivarius with Finetune pegs by Wittner and a titanium case courtesy of GEWA.
